Iowa Business Figures Now Quite Favorable
Iowa City report by Prof. George Davies of the University of Iowa bureau of business research finds December data incomplete but seven months of 1939 show a likely 5 percent gain over 1938. Residential building rises, farm price declines noted, holiday trade up about 15 percent from 1938. In November building contracts, department store sales, employment, and industrial payrolls all ahead of October and 1938 levels. Economists foresee tempered optimism for 1940 amid war orders and wage adjustments.
