Three Men Hurt in Gasoline Fire at Iowa County Site
Three men were burned when gasoline in buckets ignited by a backfire from a tractor at a highway building site north of Millersburg Iowa. Injured were Maynard McKay and Joan Newberry of North English and Merle Jones of Millersburg. A fourth worker, Pete Lane, was uninjured.

Iowa State University enrolls 6606 students set new record
Registrar Harry G. Barnes announced a record enrollment at the State University of Iowa of 6 606 students. The former record of 6 645 was set during the first semester of the 1986 57 year. The present mark is an increase of 251 students over last year and total instruction enrollments since September reach 7 881. There are 1 225 non campus students in the liberal arts and graduate colleges.

Pigs Farrow Record for Chester White Sow in 1959
Indianola reports a Chester White sow owned by J. K. Oxenreider farrowed 39 pigs in 1959 with eight in January and 15 on July 7 plus 16 on December 27. The January litter was saved. some summer litters drowned in a mud hole and later litters lost to cold. The sow, three years old this spring, hails from Oxenreider’s initial stock begun in L111.

Iowa City coeds isolated after scarlet fever outbreak
Forty State University of Iowa coeds were kept in Clinton Place rooming house for three to five days after two scarlet fever cases were found in the house. Harriette Brown Kimballton and Jane Davis Boone were moved to the University hospital isolation ward while others remained under observation since Sunday and Tuesday.

Vote Thursday on Sale of School District Property
Voters in Washington independent school district will decide Thursday whether to authorize the board of education to dispose of district real estate. Risk Secures School Contract for Stewart Schoolyards
Risk Construction of Washington won the bid to build sidewalks and a drive from the Stewart school to the lot line. The board of education awarded the $755 contract yesterday afternoon, with Lovejoy of Des Moines the only other bidder at $877. Construction may not begin until warmer spring weather.

Pneumonia Type 54 Cases Reported by Health Unit
The Washington county health unit reports 54 cases examined this year with 54 patients and 90 specimens. Pneumonia types included all 32 varieties. Mortality among 1937 1938 1939 deaths averaged at age 79 with three deaths under 60. Early serum treatment showed promising results in pneumonia cases.

Anthony Horak 84 Dies at University Hospital
Anthony Horak aged 84 died today at University Hospital in Iowa City after a week as a patient. Known as Charlie to friends, he lived nine miles northeast of Washington on the Riverside Washington road. Funeral plans were not available this afternoon.
