Washington city population 3,671 with detailed age and sex breakdowns, employment by occupation, and language literacy. A reported con artist toured the city yesterday asking for three cents to buy a square meal, then left last evening after Sheriff Teeter drove him out. He claimed Hastings Nebraska as his home and knew Mr Ballard, using the plea to gain 2 3 dollars daily from passing crowds.
A city resident publicized concerns over a vagrant tale teller who claimed work as a blacksmith and tried to borrow money from Sitlar and A Houk before asking S A White of the First National Bank for funds to reach Mediapolis. White advised him to buy a ticket and walk the rest. If he remains he should be removed.
Hunt's Comedy Co staged Mable Heath in five acts before a large Graham audience. The company drew growing crowds each night, with strong notice for the Caufman family and the overall repertoire quality. The crowd praised the show as clever and first-class, one of the best repertoire offerings in some time.
The hunting party from yesterday's Journal found excellent shooting and brought in 64 rabbits, marking a successful day outdoors.
Co. D plans a large dance on the 15th next month featuring a Chicago orchestra and a dress affair. The Evening Journal notes a Christmas issue on pink paper with Editor Payne and foreman Nate Black. McCleery, local shortstop, is mentioned among alert newspaper staff. Mr and Mrs Scott Brown visit Wayne guests of Mrs Strain.
