Man Found With 25 Grains Morphine in System

A man is reported to have 25 grains of morphine in his system. Doctors say the drug level could indicate overdose or accidental ingestion. Authorities are investigating circumstances surrounding the incident.

Morphine taker beats odds and recovers in hospital

Will Weir, who swallowed twenty five grains of morphine and avoided medical help, was taken to the hospital and reported conscious with a high chance of recovery. Doctors credit a settled tolerance to the drug and note no conscious crisis intent. Relatives in Prairie City Colfax and a well to do brother in Bunnells La were notified. Schools Reopen After Break as Evening Skating Limited

The schools reopen with no more vacation until June. Children will now have only evening skating sessions available.

Rev Stark preached a fine New Year sermon despite yesterday morning. The choir offered a beautiful anthem. This week features daily prayer meetings with open invitations. At the state teachers meeting the reading was praised as among the best. Miss Doolittle is advancing fast as a devoted teacher.

Winter term begins Monday January 6 with enrollment and classification week. A student prayer meeting Monday evening led by BE GC Eicher explores Loyal Obedience to God. Recitations proceed Tuesday January 7 as several students depart Oberlin after a two week vacation from duties.

Local Officials Sworn In as New County Administration Takes Office

The Courthouse ceremony installed new county officers led by Sheriff Teeter and Treasurer J G Stewart who was unable to be sworn due to illness. New County Superintendent Cornelia Klass succeeds Lucy Swisher while St. Louis Chicago teacher Miss Swisher is praised for improving schools. The Moore and Livingstone will perform The Charity Ball at The Graham for three nights starting Monday with ladies free tickets and ticket pricing. Cora Smiley returns to duties at the Academy and the Fowler reception at First Baptist Church invites all.
