Iowa Unemployment Insurance Up in November statewide total exceeded

The Iowa Employment Security Commission reports November unemployment insurance payments at 1,993,528.18 compared with October 1,657,256.08 and 335,369 paid to federal employees and ex servicemen. County totals show Polk leads, followed by Linn, Black Hawk, and Scott. Washington County paid 3,747.26 for 82 weeks.

Iowa congressman urges navy buildup

Iowa farm land values rise across state study shows

ISU economists report a statewide rise in farm land values by about 10 dollars per acre to 395 with a 2.6 percent gain. In the northeast dairy area the increase was strongest at 1.1 percent while north central grain saw only 1.8 percent. Expansion by current owners was the main driver cited by 37 percent of 660 brokers, with contract sales, listings scarcity, outside investment and inflation hedges listed as other factors. High interest rates and low commodity prices were noted as limiting trends.

A U S Air Force F105 jet attacked a North Vietnamese missile site in the year’s first raid. MIGs were sighted in Laos as a Communist offensive moved west from the Plain of Jars toward Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Planned Parenthood sale seeks books records and puzzles

Price Commission to use spot IRS checks on price violators

Chairman C Jackson Grayson says IRS officers will conduct systematic spot checks on price guideline violations, not relying on consumer complaints. Gun Battle Across Irish Border Near Carlingford Loch

Gunmen in the Republic fired about 60 rounds across the border lake toward British troops near Carlingford Loch five miles south of Newry. British forces returned fire with machine guns and rifles. no casualties were reported. Earlier, in Falls Road Belfast a sniper attack prompted mothers to shield children as troops halted gunfire, with a sergeant ordering civilians to stop firing.
