The post vacancy followed Rolio Bergeson’s resignation to enter the armed forces. salary is $3,000 annually.

Hot Water Boiler Explodes at Ames High School
A hot water boiler in the Ames high school fieldhouse exploded injuring no one. The blast ripped the furnace room door and shattered windows. R. E. Carr, leasing the building for a roller skating rink, had fired the heater at 10 a.m. The explosion happened at 1 30 p.m. Frank Howell said damage would total about 1500 dollars, insured.

COUNCIL BLUFFS The holiday season brought double sorrow for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lewis as two fathers died within hours. Warren Lewis, 74, a retired North Western railroad engineer, had been ill a year. Services for Dean Eugene Hall, 72, father of Mrs. Lewis, were held today.

Funeral for Benjamin McAvoy Set for Sunday at 2
Benjamin Pranklin McAvoy of West Chester will be buried in Elm Grove cemetery after a 2:00 p.m. service at Jones Funeral Home chapel. The West Chester Baptist Church member died yesterday at Washington County Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 30, 1879 in Louisa County, married Mattie Statler in 1909, and lived in Muscatine, West Chester, and Keota as a farmer. Surviving are wife Mattie, two sisters Bertha Gray and Besse Roy Ster, and brother Thomas J. McAvoy. a brother and sister preceded him.

Two Die As Louisiana Tornado Hits Baton Rouge Area
