Winter Foraging and Backyard Wildlife Observations
The writer contrasts harsh North American winter eating prospects with abundant backyard feeding. They describe scarce wild foods, domestic animals seen from the land, and a thriving yet perilous small animal life around a pan of corn. They note absentee birds this winter and discuss feeding sparrows, cardinals, and mice while pondering broader world issues.
