Washington February 27 Senator Brookhart of Town told the senate interstate commerce commission that the growing monopolization of the moving picture industry by large distributors is a matter of grave public concern and warrants scrutiny.
The Des Moines Register lists twenty members invited to organize an Iowa branch of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. Harold K. Browne of Fort Dodge leads as state president of the Sons of the American Revolution. Locals such as Mrs. Charles A. Speer of Washington and others from Davenport Des Moines and Humboldt will attend the organization meeting.

Joseph Mary of Riverside died last night at the Washington county hospital after about a month of treatment. Funeral plans were incomplete but likely for Wednesday at Riverside Catholic church. He is survived by his father Stephen Mary at the county home his widow and an eight year old son at Heron Lake Minn and a sister Mrs Mary Hudgel of Anthon Iowa.
Mrs H G MacMillan former Cedar Rapids resident died in Chicago after a lingering illness. Burial was in Rock Rapids where she previously lived. Her husband Horace McMillan once led Cedar Rapids Republican and served nine years as U S district attorney. Surviving are husband and five children: Mrs Hammitt Sheboygan Wis Mrs O'Brien Chicago Horace James and Glenn. She had been Miss Alice Van Doren of Washington.
Des Moines reports W. M. Colladay resigns as superintendent of the motor vehicle department after a suspension on Feb. 1 and an audit of department finances led by Charles R. Fischer. Attorney General John Fletcher says the probe will continue for more facts.

The navy dirigible Los Angeles reported to the navy department at 10 07 am and was off South Negril Jamaica heading toward France Field Panama Canal Zone. At the Oregon Press conference annual meeting Frank Ti Appleby was elected president for the coming year. Appleby, former Washington Ta newspaper publisher, leads the Oregon affiliations now broader to include trade and class journals. Paul Appleby of The Register and Tribune is his brother.
Puhr of West Chester Fisher from Washington Reece of Kalona Wehrle of Wellman Disney of West Chester named captain and guard among the selections by officials for the tournament team.
Wellman high school defeated Kalona 29 to 11 Saturday to claim the county basketball championship. Captain awards were given by Supt. J. H. Peet as Wellman led 18 to 7 at halftime and 20 to 7 after three quarters. Speers led Wellman with four field goals and two free throws. Washington edged West Chester 34 to 27 and then crushed Brighton 42 to 13 in the consolation series, with an all-freshman and sophomore lineup praised for balance and steady play.
The annual Thankoffering service of the Woman's Foreign Missionary society featured Miss Anna Lulu Golisch, a China representative for nineteen years, discussing Messengers and the Christian education work in Nanking. She explained funding needs for the high school including $3600 then $11090 total, with Chinese contributions covering $11,000 while America provides $3,000.

The program attracts a large crowd amid favorable travel conditions with games including Ainsworth vs Wyman and Crawfordsville vs Washington.
Wreckage of Harry Brooks' Flivver plane found 16 miles south of Melbourne Florida but missing Ford pilot from Titusville remained unfound. The Birdeye flight from Detroit to Titusville ended in total wreck with a missing wing. A truck delivered the wreckage to Melbourne.
Navy search teams from the Lexington and a Hampton Roads seaplane hunted today for three aviators who vanished after a 2 a.m. amphibian takeoff bound for Annapolis. Commander T. G. Ellyson, Lieut. Commander Hugo Schmidt, and Lieut. Roger Ranschausen were reported overdue with no word on their status.
A Federal Reserve report shows savings deposits in 40 Iowa banks rose 0.2 percent in January while 208 reporting banks in the seventh district fell 1 percent. Iowa deposits totaled 98,476,352 dollars, up 3 percent from a year earlier, with the average account down 0.2 percent for the month and 2 percent year over year.
Rufus Chesser of Ottumwa was released after nearly five years for theft from a lumber firm. He returned to the state prison and received a ten year sentence for attempting to steal an automobile tire at the same location, having been at liberty six months.
