Riverside farmer Vincent Sojka dies after financial distress
Despondency from money worries led Vincent Sojka a 70 year old prominent Riverside area farmer to take his own life at his home twelve miles northeast of Washington. A note explained his intent and a small bottle of strychnine was found in his pocket by the coroner and county attorney. Sojka had long been respected in the community and is the father of Milton Charles and Wes Sojka. Funeral plans were expected to be announced tomorrow.

Fred M. Morrison, examiner in charge of the closed East Pleasant Plain Savings Bank, announced the bank will pay one hundred cents on the dollar. Depositors have already received 75 percent and will get the remaining 25 percent March 15 plus four percent interest on certain deposits since the Sept 30 1926 closing. General creditors receive full payment and stockholders who paid the 100 percent assessment receive 25 percent. The bank’s record is cited as the best in Iowa for a closed bank.
