Ugandan student fears deportation from Iowa campus
Byakagaba Mubyama George, Ugandan native and Iowa Western Community College student, warns he would face death on return. He fled Uganda in 1974 to escape Idi Amin's terror, fearing family deaths and possible execution if deported when his visa expires in June. He doubts he could reach his home from the airport.

Legislature May Let County Fairs Elect State Board Directors
Iowa lawmakers may delegate authority to county fair boards to elect State Fair Board directors. Assistant Attorney General Marie A. Condon says the legislature can extend participation to county boards as discretion on whom it may delegate powers. The opinion was sought by Sen. Bob Rush amid Gov. Ray’s proposed board reorganization.

Ship slams into major lift bridge at Hopewell
In Hopewell Virginia the sulphur carrier Marine Floridian crashed into the Benjamin Harrison lift bridge, collapsing one span and sending four vehicles into the James River. A Coast Guard spokesman said two survivors were recovered and two cars and two trucks found. It was unclear if anyone else died. The unladen tanker reportedly steered toward the fixed bridge portion after apparently failing to maneuver, sounding its horn to warn those on the span before entering the water.

Washington District to raise school levy for 77 78
The Washington Community School District plans a 3 per cent budget rise to 3.6 million for fiscal 1977-78 with a tax levy of 10.34 per thousand, a 3 increase from the current levy due to prior surplus use. The board approved the budget and set a March 9 public hearing and noted funds come from taxes state aid and carryover.
