Ambes Don Jackson of Glenwood is elected editor and Ron Ross of Ames named business manager of the Green Gander campus magazine. Russell Bell of Muscatine is chosen circulation manager.
A Jackson county coroner's jury investigates the death of Clarence Rufus Prindle a 55 year old Maquoketa laborer. Authorities report a one inch skull fracture as the cause of death with efforts to determine how it occurred. Prindle was found early Sunday behind a Hurstville tavern and died later at his home.
Des Moines visibility was too poor to allow Jack Knight to land as planned. Knight, a pioneer air mail pilot, aimed to arrive Sunday for a commemorative flight tracing his 1921 cross country mail route. He was delayed by Salt Lake City and Denver, causing him to miss the Des Moines stop at 11 58 a m.
Sigrid Undset told an Iowa audience that England and France failed to aid Norway, forcing capitulation to Germany. She said Norwegians lacked invasion readiness while noting Sweden’s growing sympathy for Germany and asserting Norway is in a state near slavery under German occupation.
A Luzerne mother of four girls died when her car struck a cement culvert on the Lincoln highway 22 miles west of Cedar Rapids. Mrs Edward J Backes was en route to Cedar Rapids to visit her brother Claus Danker, 49, of Chelsea who was operated on Feb 20. The four daughters Martha 16 Alice 13 Luella 10 Velma 7 were seriously injured.
Independence records Mrs. Mary Snyder Meffert Buchanan County's oldest resident celebrated her 100th birthday at her daughter Mrs. John S. Williams home. Five generations attended. born in Ohio she was married twice and both husbands are deceased. Despite age she rises daily reads some and enjoys checkers.
Albert Burkley 72, owner of the Burkley hotel and apartments in Iowa City, died at Mount Summit hospital in Oconomowoc Wisconsin after weeks of illness. His father ran Iowa City's first hotel opened in 1863 the Burkley House.
Humboldt reports the Thor Lutheran church burned down completely with the janitor starting the blaze. Cause undetermined, with possible wiring or chimney fault. It was the town's only church.
A choral vesper at the First Presbyterian Church featured soloists Doris Forney Reich Harold Reeves John Lloyd Hughes and a girls octet led by Edith M Shields. The event raised over 40 for replacing choir robes.

A blaze at a brick Methodist church in Cresco sent 150 children fleeing during Sunday school. The interior burned and the roof collapsed. damage was estimated at 35000 dollars by Rev. George W. Turner. Teachers directed students to evacuate calmly as smoke filled the building.
Don Radda, famed tall corn grower, wins Washington County silver cup for best ten ears of corn at the Iowa state show in Ames. Cup lists past winners since 1917 including Ruebsam and Knotek. Radda keeps the trophy until next year’s exhibit.
Mr and Mrs Robert Stevens of Nevada Iowa will conduct a special service at the Foursquare Gospel tabernacle this evening. They bring pianist Mrs Harold to perform special music. Meeting begins at 7 30 p m.

J. H. Peet former superintendent now of Cedar Falls spoke to a Washington Methodist congregation. The morning service, led entirely by laymen, introduced the newly organized Methodist activities aimed at unifying efforts and cutting delays. Des Moines Feb 24 Bills to provide four year terms for state and county elective officers were introduced in the senate today. The present term is two years. A bill seeks to extend terms for other county officers while county attorneys remain limited to two year terms by the constitution.
James Alloway aged 69 lifelong resident of Columbus Junction died at his son’s home in Muscatine after illness. He had been hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospital January. Funeral services set for 2 PM Wednesday at J. C. Richie funeral home Columbus Junction with burial in Columbus City cemetery. Survived by daughter Frances of Chicago son Clarence of Columbus City two other sons and several grandchildren plus two step brothers and two step sisters.
