In Cedar Rapids a 66 year old man named W Graves sought a drink from a young man off duty officer Leonard Devore. Graves recently released after 80 days for intoxication was jailed again after he asked for a drink while Devore, a stranger to him, carried denatured alcohol for his radiator.
Sylvia Anderson a 27 year old nurse from Des Moines locates her father Mr Anderson a Kirksville Missouri automobile salesman after years of searching. The reunion occurred after a meeting in Kirksville Missouri and marks the first contact in decades.
Unofficial returns from four of five wards show Mayor Thomas J. Martin, not a Republican nominee, leading N. J. Alexander 276 to 74 in the city primaries. Martin’s name was a write in. he needs about 350 votes to secure the nomination, roughly 10 percent of Republican votes cast.
Des Moines Governor Kraschel defended a letter sent to 28 state library and historical department employees. He said the note urged negotiation to retain jobs under new leadership, and it should not be read as mass firing. The letter referenced the Library and Historical Board selecting new bosses and listed long-serving Republican staff.
The Bremer county board of supervisors let a $15,000 contract for a Wapsipinicon River Bridge. A 150 foot continuous I-beam span will be built two miles from state highway No. 10. Two smaller bridges will be erected over Thuck creek.
Humboldt authorities planned funeral services for Cora Relcher, 65, a retired school teacher who died after slashing her throat and wrists with a razor. Investigators cited a nervous breakdown as a factor in the tragedy.

Iowa City officials report eighty play entries for the University of Iowa annual production festival, the largest field in history. Community groups compete March 8 to 20, while high school and senior college casts vie for honors April 1 to 3.
Coe College alumni across the nation prepare for National Coe Night on April 7. Officials plan a Cedar Rapids banquet with a musical program broadcast to alumni groups nationwide.

The journey included lengthy delays and many stranded vehicles with one wreck near Excelsior Springs. Frederick arrived safely by train but is seriously ill in Washington Hospital.
Dr JH J Thornton of the history department at State University of Iowa spoke to the Rotary Club on Washington birthday. He traced key events in Washingtons life and linked them to colonial social and political trends, offering insight into Washingtons character and early colonial issues.
Madrid battled dawn bombardments as rebel guns and air power unleashed heavy fire for nearly three hours. Government brief says loyalist forces repulsed several rebel attempts to breach Madrid lines and held positions. Rebels deny claims of Oviedo loyalist advances and say insurgent positions there remain invincible.
Senator T. S. Driscoll of Farmington, a Democratic holdover in the Iowa state senate, was reported in serious condition at Methodist hospital after a heart attack. The 40 year old Lee county farmer had a very poor night, with only slight hopes for recovery as doctors assess his case. He was first elected in 1934.

About half the Senate has already been called to the White House for discussions, while a survey shows the effort as largely on track. A Washington note on early military career and Mt. Intensive fundraising begins as Washington High School band plans to purchase new uniforms before the April 10 district music contest. Band Mothers club organizes with about 110 members to sponsor five benefit groups while Maurice Brayton directs fund efforts and serves as treasurer. The current $250 starter fund targets at least $900 for suits, with old outfits seven to eight years outdated and ill suited for competition.

A snow bank along highway 161 near Ainsworth led to a collision between a Washington driver Clifford Beggs and Hartley Stevenson of Sigourney. Stevenson’s car slid into the snowdrift, Beggs could not avoid striking the rear. Three people received minor injuries. Stevenson and his wife were returning from a hospital in Iowa City. they headed back there after the crash. Beggs sustained bruises and cuts. both cars were damaged, with Stevenson’s car not out of service.
Mortimore traveled to Muscatine this afternoon for business purposes.
Walter L. Fry of Fry Products in Detroit recounts sitting in his plant since Friday to press for a settlement. He says 100 workers, mostly women, joined the action to protest grievances but he seeks a direct man to man talks and does not blame his employees. He emphasizes openness, personal relations, and willingness to meet any known workers, not union representatives.
Iowa senate reopened the chain store tax fight as Senator James J. Gillespie proposed a five percent gross receipts tax on chains with more than 200000 annual business. The plan amends the previously invalidated law and would apply to receipts from August 1, 1936, with per store taxes remaining unchanged.
