A cabin plane piloted by J. G. Coulter, president of Council Bluffs Airways, landed undamaged in a 20 acre tract near the Council Bluffs airport Friday after a motor failure. A freight train passed by inches moments earlier, highlighting a tense sequence in Iowa.

Fort Dodge youth Bertha Reaves, 17, formerly of Fort Dodge, was killed Thursday by a 400 foot fall at Boulder Dam Nevada. Relatives were informed Friday and the body had not been recovered. Reaves and his father left Fort Dodge two years ago to work on the dam.
Police intensified their investigation after discovering 1898 dollars hidden beneath a dishpan in the home of the slain woman, Sarah Tracy. Officers pressed clues Thursday in Maquoketa as they pursue the suspected killer.
Fred Johnson and Fred Heckether of Alden pleaded guilty to operating automobiles while intoxicated in Eldora district court. Johnson was fined 300 dollars plus costs, Heckether 400 dollars plus costs. Half the fines were suspended during good behavior.
An application for 624,114 in public works funds to finance extensive Scott County road improvements has been filed with P. F. Hopkins, PWA engineer in Des Moines. Plans include the building of a 10 000 dollar garage at Eldridge Ia.
More than 21 000 alumni of the State University of Iowa will begin balloting next month for officers of the 1935 alumni association. Fourteen new officers will be elected. Nominees for the presidency are Rush C. Butler of Chicago and Sumner B. Chase of Fort Dodge.
Five year old Zalva Wilson, one of seven children on relief, died of pneumonia in Des Moines. The death prompted bitter charges over inadequate care and a response from Allen Woughton of the relief agency as authorities dispute relief conditions Friday.
In Birmingham on February 23 the federal court granted Alabama Power Company a permanent injunction halting TVA sale of power transmission lines and distributing plants. The judge also barred 14 Alabama municipalities from accepting federal loans to build lines that would compete with private firms. An immediate appeal was anticipated.
Nearly 100000 Iowans and former Iowans gathered in Lincoln Park Los Angeles for the annual Iowa California picnic. A message from Governor Clyde L. Herring sent best wishes. Ten acres were laid out as a giant Iowa map for attendees from each county. A second picnic is planned in Long Beach the second Saturday in August.

Chairman Patterson disclosed Washington county’s ten year average corn yield at 41.7 bushels per acre with township figures ranging from 32.2 to 46.5 bushels. A time limit for applying for 1935 contracts will be set soon to speed the process.
Effie Chance Cisler of Washington aged 29 died at Mercy Hospital Iowa City after an operation in December. She is survived by her husband William Cisler a daughter Joanne five, her mother, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services Monday at 2 30 pm at L A Jones funeral home Washington. Burial in Washington.
