Washington Y M C A volleyball defeated Des Moines to reach the Class B semi finals in a double elimination tourney at Des Moines. A late surge by Newton denied Washington the first final berth, Boone defeated Newton for Class B, Des Moines won Class A, and Washington heads to Iowa City to face the American Legion in volleyball and basketball midweek.

First Woman Electrocuted in Pennsylvania Hangs Tightened Fate
Irene Schroeder and Glenn Dague were executed at the Rockview state prison at 7:06 and 7:14 am for the murder of Corporal Brady Paul. Schroeder, 22, became the first woman in Pennsylvania to die by electric chair. Witnesses included a chaplain and 12 others as a solemn, ritualized death followed their crime spree.

American Legion announces the Imperial Welsh Singers will tour Washington in March with tentative date March 10 at the Medinah Shrine temple in Chicago and a stop in town likely at the Methodist church. Led by the Redpath bureau, the group previously sang for the Rotary convention in Chicago. Roy Benson of Davenport visited town.

W W J Brooks found 1510 dollars in gold buried in his garden at 04 North Iowa avenue. The coins date as early as 1860 and 1890, with 70 twenty dollar pieces and many tens and smaller coins. He took the cache to the bank after discovery.

Deser t search for 15 convicts after escape from prison
In Forence Arizona a bloodhound pack and six guards hunted 15 of 16 convicts who slipped over a 20 foot wall during a Sunday baseball game at the penitentiary. One escapee was captured later and four were seen at a Coolidge pool hall. The escaping group remained unarmed while authorities pressed the search.
