Fire consumes Nelson building in Kansas City cold snap
In Kansas City two men admitted starting a basement fire to keep warm as 18 fire companies fought a four hour blaze in 14 degree weather. The vacant six story Nelson building suffered extensive damage with the structure reduced to a brick skeleton. Woodrow Moss and John Crites were arrested as flames spread through hallways and threatened the north end of the city.

Man Charged With Manslaughter In Infant Death
Leonard, 39, of Panorata farm, was held on manslaughter charges over the death of his infant son Merrill after a coroner jury found a crime had been committed. He allegedly whipped the child to enforce toilet training. witness Norma Pratt said she saw him strike the boy behind the left ear as the child lay on the floor. The infant died from brain hemorrhages. Leonard sobbed in court and was jailed on bond as he faced the charge. He had five other children and his wife died at Merrill’s birth.
