A Scotchman's young daughter gets a June bug in her ear prompting police and fire department involvement. An ear specialist uses a dark room with a light to extract the bug, leaving the child unharmed. The doctor charges two dollars, and the father jokes about the price and the bug's exit.
The Iowa Senate approved a measure requiring five days notice of intention to marry with a six day waiver option for emergencies. The vote was 36 to 1 with 13 absent. Senator Bissell cast the lone negative vote. The bill, by Senator Clearman, aims to curb hasty marriages and prevent underage unions.
In the Washington county high school basketball tournament first round Kalona faces Ainsworth at eight and Wellman meets Washington at nine. Funeral services for D A Moore who died yesterday will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Sherman’s funeral home. The Rev A M Malcolm of the Associate Presbyterian church will lead the service. Burial is set for Elm Grove cemetery.
Washington junior college presents Dregs a tragic Bowery life study in New York City. Dorothy Masson and Lawrence McKune star with Oneita Griggs Harvey Coulter and Willis Wittmer. Eight entrants make the state contest keen. Mrs. C. S. Williams directs. Plays run Friday and Saturday at 7 15 p m with Dregs last Saturday. Local support urged.
Deputy Sheriff Walter Schroeder has resigned his sheriff's office job to take effect March 1. He will join the county auditor's office where he previously worked for two years. Sheriff R H McCarty said he has no announcement yet on a new deputy. He praised Schroeder's good record and regrets the loss.
The Masonic school of instruction at the Masonic temple closed yesterday evening after third degree work. James White of Keota led the district session with candidates from Ainsworth and visitors from Ainsworth Brighton Columbus Junction Batavia Mt. Pleasant Ollie Martinsburg Keota and Chariton.

He formerly lived in Washington county and farmed near Brookfield before moving there eight years ago. Burial is at Rose Hill cemetery following services by Rev Charles Law.

They planned the crime to pay a mortgage on an auto and this was the state's first bank robbery conviction of the year.
An almost destitute Chicago family of eight was injured or killed when a gas leak exploded in their two story frame house early today. Firemen say the blast trapped the parents and six children. two children died, two others were critically hurt.
