General Butler Plans Retirement and Lectures in 1951 32

Raymond Lorack auction sale at Robert Carson farm

Raymond Lorack sold 100 sheep 80 hogs 24 cattle and six horses at the Robert Carson farm north west of Columbus Junction. Prices ranged from 3.50 to 6 for sheep 25 to 26 for brood sows 4.50 to 7 for fall pigs 45 to 80 for cows 35 to 40 for calves and 40 to 120 for horses. Hay oats straw seed corn and other farm items also sold. Paul Klotz acted as auctioneer with J. B. Ashton as clerk.

Increased Attendance at Prayer Services in Recent Weeks

Yesterday's prayer meetings drew 122 attendees, the highest since the end of the McCombe-Close campaign. Previous weekly totals were 112, 119, and 114. Morning gatherings reached 110 at homes and 12 at the business men's meeting.

Iowa Senate Backs County Assessors Plan In Vote

Des Moines February 19 The Iowa Senate approved a bill replacing township assessors with county assessors by a 29 to 17 vote. An amendment to elect county assessors for two year terms failed 16 to 30. The measure, drafted by the joint legislative tax committee, signals a major change in Iowa’s tax system. Senator Carden opposed the bill.
