Des Moines Feb 18 The Iowa House passed a bill allowing cities to contract for a public utilities plant and pay from future earnings. It advanced 76 to 23 and now moves to the Senate. The measure, by Rep Leonard Simmer, requires 30 days public notice, a bid time, and a city vote before contracts.
Dr. T. H. McMichael president of Monmouth college will be the main speaker at a union church service Sunday evening February 22 at 7 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church. The Washington birthday pageant will be presented and a young people choir led by Dr. A. W. Henke will perform.

Des Moines Iowa February 18 A county assessor bill recommended by the legislative tax committee faced the Iowa Senate with little opposition. Discussion began and more than a dozen amendments were adopted as a groundwork for the bill. The measure would substitute hundreds of township assessors with one per county. An amendment by Senator Clark would place duties of compiling tax lists and related taxation tasks with the county assessor until lists are turned over to the treasurer, reducing county auditor duties.
