Acting government again suspends constitutional guarantees and reestablishes censorship under Gen. Damaso Berenguer. Civil guards and heavily armed troops concentrate in suburbs while rumors of uprisings circulate. Martial law may be restored as stability concerns persist.

Reverend A A Ving will lead the business men's prayer meeting at the Y M C A at 9 o clock tomorrow morning. Wayside prayer meetings will be at homes citywide at 9 30 with multiple ward divisions and leaders including Mrs Dan Rohrer Rev C W Klein and others across wards two and four.

Supporters expect hearings and a prompt action by President Hoover, amid talk of possible veto confrontation. The winner trio advances to state league, debating the chain store issue. Dr HW Masson reports a new rear fender after a minor collision in front of the office.

Des Moines, Feb 17. The Iowa Supreme Court enjoined Norman Baker of Muscatine from practicing medicine without a license, reversing a Muscatine district court ruling that had favored Baker’s associates. The decision holds Baker, though not a doctor, violated statutes by supervising treatment at the cancer cure Institute and owning KTNT radio and the Midwest Free Press.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Baptist church for Ralph J. Springer in charge of Rev A A Wing and Rev Roy Seems. A quartet from the Baptist choir sang. Pallbearers were Ralph and Merle Edwards Ralph Kleese and Kermit Plowman. interment in Elm Grove cemetery. The boy, aged three and a half, died after an operation for a ruptured appendix at the county hospital last Thursday. He leaves his mother and sister Ruth Eloise seven, father had died four years ago.
Gov Dan W Turner called for economy in state spending in a message to the Town legislature urging reductions in appropriations. He warned against increasing public expenditures unless a corresponding saving is found through retrenchment in another area. The inheritance tax bill meanwhile passed the Town Senate, lowering revenue from about 1.6 million to 2.5 million with a 29 to eight vote amid lengthy debate.
Harrison Dodder and three painters will begin decorating the Y M C A on Saturday, starting in the community room with a first coat and making the room usable by early next week. Corridor work will follow, then second and third coats while keeping the building open with minimal disruption.
Maurice Mayo Mildred Masson and Mary Pauls of Washington high school are chosen for the North Central high school orchestra meeting in Des Moines April 13 to 18. The ensemble includes top players from Iowa Illinois Indiana Michigan Minnesota Nebraska North Dakota South Dakota Wisconsin and western Ontario. Conductor E Maddy of the University of Michigan leads with guest Henri Verbrugghen Minneapolis Symphony. McKay aids, the group camps and trains in hotels under strict supervision with daily rehearsals and broadcasts later in the week.
