Mississippi flood control bill endorsed by House panel
The House flood control committee approved a Mississippi Valley flood plan by 11 to 6, authorizing about 473 million dollars in federal funding. The measure creates a seven member Mississippi Valley Flood Control Commission, ends the current river commission, and empowers federal finance for levees spillways reservoirs and related works. Word came of the death of John Bowman formerly of the Bowman Brothers firm in this city. He died suddenly of cerebral hemorrhage near Las Cruces New Mexico. He was about fifty and survived by his wife Edith Smouse and two daughters Elma and Margaret. Burial was in Las Cruces after a service today.
