Truck driver sentenced for fatal Feb crash
Martin Baulmer, 32, Burr Oak farmer and trucker, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Decorah district court. He received eight years in Fort Madison penitentiary and a $1,600 fine plus costs. If paid, fine may allow parole to Sheriff George Haris. Julius Spande of Mabel, Minn., died after being struck on Feb 7 while walking on a highway north of Decorah. Woman Aged 103 Dies in Onslow Community
Mrs. Lydia Spencer Lyons, 103, died Tuesday at her Onslow home after several weeks illness. She was Jones County’s oldest resident and last pioneer of Onslow. At age 12 she moved with parents to Iowa by train to Chicago then by wagon to claim lands. She belonged to the Presbyterian church for 70 years.

Cedar Rapids Boy Killed By a Cattle Truck
Lyle Var eer 18 son of Mr and Mrs William Palmer of Cedar Rapids died instantly after being struck by an air semitrailer stock transport driven by Arthur V Mix Webster City. The accident occurred east of Cedar Rapids as he walked home from school. Coroner Ranch Hersch ruled no inquest and noted the truck owned by Rex Lee Webster City was en route to Chicago with 16 head of cattle.

Escaped Prisoner Captured in Cedar Rapids Tavern
