The Washington YMCA campaign reported $17 335 in membership funds at noon and plans a victory dinner Tuesday at 6 20 p m for all workers. Cards must be turned in then regardless of completed calls.
Rep. John Kyl said he is seriously considering a run for Iowa governor if he and Democrat Neal Smith are placed in the same central district. He would not oppose Gov. Robert Ray unless rivals enter the GOP primary. The remap plan creates the closest congressional race in the state and stirs intra party maneuvering ahead of 1972.
Los Angeles residents displaced by the San Fernando Valley quake began returning to their Granada Hills Mission Hills and Sepulveda homes after Mayor Yorty lifted the evacuation. About 120000 people faced damage and 1000 officers conducted checks while workers searched the Sylmar VA Hospital wreckage where 43 of 62 dead were confirmed.

The firm allegedly drugs seniors with a free trial then enrolls them in an automatic monthly program, using threats and collection tactics.
Gov. Robert D. Ray said it is inevitable the Iowa abortion statute will be tested in court because similar laws in other states have been ruled unconstitutional. The House defeated a bill to liberalize the 112 year old statute and Sen. Charlene Coklin noted the issue has shifted to the courts. The Iowa Supreme Court last year upheld the law in an 8-0 decision involving Joseph Abodeely.

Iowa Senate halted action Friday on a bill moving 3.4 million dollars to the Highway Commission to cover budget needs. An amendment would let the commission pay Ames 360 thousand as the state's share of a one mile road on the Iowa State University campus, funded from the primary road fund.
