Lower levy proposed for Iowa area schools by Rep Stromer
A bill by Rep Delwyn Stromer would lower the maximum property tax levy for area and merged area schools to one half mill starting July 1 1973 with staged reductions thereafter. The bill allows up to three fourths mill until 1973, then one half mill until 1975 and one quarter mill after 1975. A second measure by Rep Marion Siglin and Rep Norman Rodgers would let county boards create an ambulance service expense fund and levy a one half mill if user fees do not cover costs.

Pvt. Joseph G. Parra 21 of Pearl River Louisiana was sentenced in a two hour court martial to 18 months in prison and a bad conduct discharge for desertion after fleeing from a hospital in Yokohama Japan and later being deported from Sweden. He was wounded in Vietnam 1968 and had his pay and allowances forfeited.

Minister and daughter killed en route to Washington funeral
A minister Rev. James A. Loder 36 and his daughter Jeri Lynn 17 of Maysville Oklahoma died in a February 11 1971 auto crash near Bethany Missouri while traveling to Washington for the funeral of Mrs. Oakley Payne.
