Etta Mae Lawson, 42, sought a marriage license from the Des Moines clerk for William M. Parker. The clerk asked the accompanying man if he could witness. The man replied he is Earl A. Duncan, a former husband, implying his qualification as witness.
Davenport man Carl Seefeldt found his two watchdogs failed to deter a thief who stole a $75 radio from his unlocked garage. He reported the incident to police noting the dogs did nothing besides watching the thief.
Burlington reports Dr. J. P. Mathias of Mediapolis says heavy snows force him to use snow shoes to reach patients for the first time in more than half a century of practice.

Mrs. Helen Westman, bound up town from Saturday to Monday, was arrested Wednesday on disorderly conduct charges. She left her baby with neighbors. the infant was taken to a hospital and listed in serious condition.
Governor Herring said he will seek extension of permission to operate mines on Saturday and warned miners and dealers against raising coal prices. An investigator was sent to Fairfield and reports of price hikes at Centerville area mines are being investigated. Price increases from hauling costs due to snow may be tolerated, but those based on the cold wave and coal shortage will not. He promised to publish the names of firms raising prices.

Harvey Holden, attendant at the Farm Bureau Service station on North Marion avenue, sustained superficial burns to his face and deeper burns to his neck when an oil heater exploded while he was cleaning the burner. He was treated by a local physician and returned to work the next day.
