Blaze at Englert Theater Destroys Iowa City Block
Fire started in the basement under the Englert theater stage at 10 am gutted the theater block and caused about 75000 dollars in damage. Wind shift prevented wider ruin while power lines were cut to protect the city. The blaze was controlled by noon and a barber shop confectionery store and three apartments suffered smoke and water damage.

Funeral for Squire D C Kyle Sunday at Methodist Church
Funeral services for Squire D C Kyle will be held Sunday at 1 50 PM in the Methodist church, with Dr W W Bowers officiating. Interment at Elm Grove cemetery. Kyle died after complications from a Christmas cold at age 84. He came to Washington in 1865, helped build railways, served as mayor, deputy sheriff, coroner, and justice of the peace, and united nearly two hundred marriages.
