A blast at the Powhattan mine near Bellaire Ohio killed one miner and injured 19 others with 10 taken to hospital and nine sent home. The mine, shut since Friday, reopened this morning and workers escaped the main shaft. The strike had ended with a return to work.
Rev Dr Frederick Knuebel president of the United Lutheran Church in America says public statements encouraging disobedience to law are unchristian and supports prohibition as desirable. Prof Theodore Graeber of Concordia Lutheran College says Lutheranism does not demand total abstinence, echoed by Julius Nicholasburg of the American Lutheran Publicity Bureau.
The Women's National Exposition opens tomorrow in Saint Louis featuring Princess Cantamense a Russianborn American and granddaughter of General Grant along with two Santa Fe Indian women. Hundreds of men show eczema like lesions on thighs as phosphorus sandpaper vaporizes from body heat and penetrates the skin causing painful slow healing inflammation.

Fire swept through downtown Dayton Ohio this morning causing an estimated 750000 in damage. The blaze began at the National meat market and quickly engulfed the Home store building a department store. The American building a fourteen story office structure also suffered heavy losses along with the Sarnoff Irving hat store and Reed shoe store.

The Dewey Portland Cement Company of Kansas City will erect a three million dollar cement plant west of Davenport near Linwood. The 215 acre site, bought from John Schricker and William Sauer farmers, will produce about one million bags annually. President S. E. Tyler says roughly three million dollars will be spent on construction and equipment, now funded by the company treasury. Engineers began laying out plans today.
