Mrs J M Soukup aged 81 died Monday night at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine where she had lived recently. Formerly of 215 East Seventh Street Washington she was born June 3 1882 near Riverside to John and Kathryn Knotek Chihak. She married Joseph M Soukup Feb 17 1903 and he died Oct 24 1953. Surviving are son Lewis Muscatine brother Joe Chihak Washington and sister Rose Bartosh Mt Vernon. Funeral Thursday at 2 p.m. Jones Funeral Home with Rev W R Yard officiating. Des Moines Girl, 16, Shot Dead. Stepfather Sought
A 16 year old Des Moines girl Diane Linn McConnell was shot to death on an icy street as she walked to Des Moines Tech High School. Police named Doyle Hileman, 30, her stepfather, as top suspect, driving a pink and white 1959 Dodge with 1963 Iowa plates. Witnesses described the struggle and rapid gunfire on the snow covered sidewalk. The teen moved from Newton with her family and had planned to join the student council today.
