In Dallas, the start of a hearing on venue transfer for Jack Ruby’s murder trial saw chief defense lawyer Melvin Belli clash with Assistant D A Henry Wade. Judge Joe Brown refused to move the trial on Belli’s authority, keeping the case in Dallas. Ruby appeared nervous yet engaged with reporters as he entered the courtroom from a maximum security cell.
Authorities labeled the Sunday explosions as definitely sabotage after a freight train carrying aerosol cans and Easter chocolate toppled 32 cars onto a highway and a crane exploded in a Hialeah yard. No serious injuries were reported as North Miami Beach police chief L. C. Leeper confirmed sabotage.
Narry Z. Brown, formerly of the Wellman area, died Sunday afternoon in Iowa City where he had lived in recent years. The funeral is set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Beckman Funeral Home in Iowa City. Survivors include a brother, Charles J. Brown of Wellman, plus a niece and two nephews.
Des Moines reports the National Farm Institute will convene for two days with the theme Educational needs of the rural people. Keynote speaker Virgil S. Lagomarcino of Iowa State University will discuss new roles for the federal state extension service and preparing youth for the future. Notable speakers include George N. James C. Bean 73 died suddenly this morning of a heart attack at his home in Haskins Funeral arrangements were incomplete. He was born December 5 1890 near West Chester son of Frank and Dora Bean reared in the county and married March 10 1926 to Dorothy Marie Wall A World War I veteran and Milwaukee Railroad employee until retirement Survivors include his wife two sons Donald of Marion and Richard of Ainsworth five grandchildren two brothers Norm Bean of Ainsworth and Walter of Fairfield and one sister Nora Spes sard of Ainsworth
Atty General Hultman ruled Gov Hughes cannot re submit Corbin Crawford for reappointment to the State Board of Control. Crawford's term ends 30 days after the special session opens Feb 24. The governor may ignore the ruling or seek a workaround, while Barry’s term also faces 30 day post session expiry.
United Press International warns of hazardous driving in the southwest and extreme south with occasional snow west and south and locally heavy snow showers accumulating 2 to 4 inches by midday. Clearing and colder tonight. Tuesday brings fair east, partly cloudy and warmer west with lows near zero to 5 above and highs in the 30s to 20s. Wednesday outlook partly cloudy south and light snow north with little temperature change. Five day forecast shows a mild to cool pattern with above normal temps Tuesday through Saturday and about 10 inches of snow north in light snow periods elsewhere.
Ghanaian Times denounces Emerson Player and other African American diplomats as skunks and Judas, calling for expulsion of “spurious” Americans. It asserts Africa will pursue revolution, condemning U.S. racialism while noting Johnson praised Player for recovering the flag at the embassy.
Albert Bain died February 8 at Memorial Hospital Mt Pleasant after a six day illness. Funeral services will be February 11 at Wayland Methodist Church with Rev H Nichols and Rev Delane Stephens presiding. Zehr Funeral Home is in charge and burial is at Green Mound Cemetery. He was born December 23 1889 in Henry County to A J and Thankful Bain. Survived by four daughters Mrs Forest Rich Mrs Floyd Norton and Mrs Carl Hill of Mt Pleasant a granddaughter Mrs Howard Keifer and 17 grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife three sons and one daughter.

U S and Allied diplomats race to avert civil war while evacuation of American dependents accelerates.
The Washington Coin Club will meet this evening at 7 30 at the Washington County fair grounds. Discussion will cover the Kennedy half dollar and the removal of 1964 proof sets. Maurice Conrad of Keota serves as auctioneer and John Lloyd presides.
A 100 percent white student boycott closed Macon County High in Notasulga Alabama while a bomb threat shut Shorter High School nearby. About 75 elementary pupils attended Notasulga. no white students arrived at the high school. Six Negroes had been assigned to Shorter and Notasulga by a federal judge after previous boycotts. Gov. Wallace planned a Midwest speaking tour and promised to return if needed. Local mayor James Rea blocked Negro entry, citing safety, with state troopers present and reporters nearby.
