Davenport story reports Walter Schwartz, 20, from Denver, Colorado, arrested at the national guard armory after a window was pried open. He says a man supplied an automatic pistol clip and instructed him to fetch several similar clips and cartridges.
Bliss Chamberlain, 79, a farmer east of Maquoketa, died hours after an ice fall in his cattle lot. Death attributed to head injury and heart weakness after medical exam.
Tom Coyle twelve year old son of Dan Coyle a farmer near Cartersville was found hanging over a barbed wire fence in Rockwell hospital suffering from exposure. He had been riding a neighbor’s horse home when found, and his parents believe he was thrown from the horse and fell exhausted into the fence.
Four school teachers and two students were injured when their car was struck by a westbound Rock Island train at a crossing in CASEY. The group was receiving medical care as authorities investigated the collision and its circumstances.
Mrs. Maude Smith Delavan of Tabor Iowa says Columbia Pictures bought film rights to her novel The Rummelharts of Wampler Avenue for 10000 and also secured an option on her second novel A Rummelheart Must Roam to be published this month. She and her husband now reside in Omaha Nebraska.
Maurice V. Pew retires today as state insurance commissioner and will become vice president of two California insurers. Governor Wilson names Charles R. Fischer to Pew’s post, with Iowa Senate confirmation. Pew will work for the Farmers Automobile Insurance Exchange and the Truck Insurance Exchange of Los Angeles.
Dr. R. W. Tallman NYA director told a Des Moines audience at Lincoln High School that American youth must be given jobs and a chance to serve democracy. He emphasized that democracy means real opportunity, not theory, for graduates four years out without work.

The play debuts Wednesday February 15 as a rare professionally produced stage work in the city after the building was destroyed.
Dr Paul d Eca, Brazilian political expert, says Lima Conference marks a real step toward closer relations between the United States and Latin America. He notes gratitude for the Monroe Doctrine, trade agreements easing suspicions, and growing Latin American friendliness amid competing European interests. The Institute series presentation drew a large audience and invited questions.
Vatican City February 11 Pope Pius XI lay in state after his death with Catholics filing past the catafalque in St. Peter’s Church during a solemn ceremony. The nine days of funeral rites begin tomorrow with six services in St. Peter’s and three in the Sistine Chapel. Cardinals plan to convene the conclave once all resident cardinals arrive in Rome.

Otto Ossman about 46 years old of two and a half miles southwest of Wellman was arrested by Sheriff H. M. Putnam for operating a car without a registration card displayed. He appeared before Justice T. W. Zillmer in Wellman and was fined 50 dollars, which he cannot pay and is serving it in the county jail.
Police linked 22 year old How ard Romig to the killings of Dorothy Buskirk 24 and her 15 month old daughter. Romig reportedly forced to surrender by his father outside Easton police headquarters. The victims were shot twice in the head and the girl served as Romig’s housekeeper.
A community fund drive launches next Monday to raise 250 dollars to cover Washington county Boy Scout expenses for 1924. Fred Downing chairs the finance committee. four scoutmasters oversee a 60-member force to interview residents and collect roughly one dollar each. The effort supports local troops, leadership training, camp fees, and badges while crediting Rotary and Y's Men clubs for long sponsorship. Over 300 Scouts have participated since 1924, with five earning Eagle Rank. Second Lieutenant Troy Keith, pictured, is believed to set a new speed record after flying his plane over Shreveport at about 670 miles per hour. The aircraft buckled a wing during the dive but landed safely after the pilot, who had lost consciousness from 28 000 feet, recovered enough to steady the craft at 9 000 feet.
