Newton city council acting as a board of health at a called meeting passed an emergency measure prohibiting the sale of raw milk effective immediately. Health physician Dr. E R McCurray cited a public emergency from septic sore throats and five recent Malta fever cases likely linked to impure milk.
Council Bluffs police Captain James J. Durick remains in Mercy Hospital recovering from back injuries after slipping on a banana peel and falling down stairs at the police headquarters. He suffered painful bruises and torn back ligaments.
Washington D C Tuesday announced by the Works Progress Administration that President Roosevelt approved $170 022 in Iowa allocations for WPA projects. Des Moines schools and grounds receive $65 199 while a statewide trade area survey gets $67 806 to guide development.

The House approved the conference report on the new farm bill to speed it toward the White House. Senate approval is needed to finish action. The bill would establish partly compulsory agricultural controls to curb overproduction. Democratic majorities backed the report despite Republican and progressive opposition. Sponsors say it will stabilize agriculture and ensure farmers get fair prices. Critics call it a cross between AAA and compulsory Bankhead cotton laws and worry about exports.
