In Mason City the Louisiana pulpiteer Waltrip director of Radio Chapel pledges a sixth day fast to collect $10,000 for completing Radio Chapel. He reports $6,000 already raised by followers during a 13 day fast last fall.
Helene Margaret, University of Iowa graduate student, received a $1500 fellowship from the American Association of University Women. She will pursue advanced English research toward a Ph.D and is the author of the epic narrative poem The Great Horse.
M J Hutton state director of conservation and W A Burhans Burlington chairman of the state board of conservation plan to explore options this week for acquiring 70 acres to enlarge the Allen Green refuge in Des Moines county The refuge currently holds 89 artes and attracts thousands of ducks funded by state money. Iowa City Dean George F Kay announces new bachelor of fine arts degree effective next year with semi professional status to expand training in graphic and plastic arts dramatics and music within the College of Liberal Arts.
Walter Green a farmer near Lake City Iowa received five dollars from Calhoun county Auditor Lorenzo Attthbrecht for the capture of a three legged gray wolf. The animal weighed about forty pounds and was tracked along the Raccoon river bottoms where it was shot. The wolf and its mate had menaced local farms for some time.
Dr Seidell chief of animal industry for Iowa warned Lowans of a possible brain fever recurrence in horses this summer. He urged delaying vaccination until after May and advised villagers not to buy vaccine from traveling peddlers but to consult reputable veterinarians.
Curly a spaniel owned by Mrs Edna Mann serves as a volunteer traffic guardian near a school. He stations himself in the street beside pupil patrols four times daily barking at cars that don t slow. He escorts children across and then returns to his post.

Thirty six oil firms including Washington Oil Co protest railroad rates on shipments from Arkansas Kansas Illinois Louisiana and Oklahoma to Iowa arguing 6.6 pounds per gallon used since 1925 understates actual weight as gasoline density has increased. They oppose charges for full tank cars citing temperature related capacity differences between southern and northern states.
