ELBERON The city water works 64 foot standpipe remains frozen as a thick icicle with the plant still without water for a week. Officials say it will take another week of thawing efforts before service resumes.

Emily Beckwith Garner of Mt Pleasant Iowa died in an Albuquerque hospital from a self-inflicted bullet wound. She shot herself at her brother Captain Warren Beckwiths mountain home near Albuquerque, police said.
Word was received this morning of the death of Mrs Guy Davis wife of the superintendent of schools at Packwood last night at Fairfield Hospital of a throat infection. She was a young woman and her untimely death is deplored. Many teachers know Mr Davis. Due to the bad storm it was hard to take Mrs Davis to the hospital.
The senate adopted by voice vote a resolution repealing the control acts governing cotton tobacco and tobacco production. Chairman Smith of South Carolina announced unanimous committee support. President Roosevelt urged repeal after the AAA was struck down by the Supreme Court.
A crowded Philadelphia bus slid on an ice covered road near Sharon Hills and plunged thirty feet to railroad tracks. More than twenty passengers were injured, ten hospitalised, three seriously, in the crash.
Proposals to raise the number of workers in Iowa coal mines were virtually agreed today. The plan aims to add labor in view of an expected coal shortage and to extend working days, including an extra Saturday shift.

Captain David A. Morris, assistant district engineer at Rock Island, will join Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College at Stillwater as professor of military science and tactics starting April 15. He will lead ROTC instruction for at least one academic year and is to report to the Oklahoma institution after leaving Rock Island. His Rock Island successor had not been chosen.

In Red Oak Iowa Feb 4 thieves broke into a local mercantile shop and stole loot valued at an unspecified amount, police were informed of the burglary.
In Pekin Illinois a home was dynamited as unions halted theater and liquor sales in sympathy with 2000 workers at the American Distilling plant. Illinois National Guard units were called to Peoria and Delavan as deputies warned they could not control the strike area. Pickets blocked access to the distillery early with no employees at work.
A night fire across the cement near Waterloo's central fire station destroyed the Cedar Tire sales room causing $30000 in losses. High winds and extreme cold hindered efforts while Patrolman William F. Nottger suffered a heart attack directing traffic.
