ESTHERVILLE The L. C. Doolittle hatchery burned with an estimated 15000 loss. It was partly insured. About 600 month old chicks and many eggs in brooders were destroyed. The cause remains undetermined.
A severe cold spell froze the town water tank last week and a factory expert with several men worked to thaw the ice and restore circulation.
Ames police nabbed four robbers at a Western railroad station platform after a confrontation with two shotguns. The four men fled in a parked car seen by station operator Everett Bourne and his wife who reported the incident to police.
Donald R. Hutchinson, superintendent of Continental Bakery, was startled when dealt a hand of 13 hearts in a Waterloo bridge game. He laid down the cards and the hand was never bid or played. Others present were Mrs Hutchison and Mrs Harry Seeber. They said the perfect hand was an accidental result of the deal and not a setup.
A team led by William Lukehart attached to a wagon carrying hogs bolted after the hogs were loaded and stopped at a schoolhouse once used as a bus stop. The hogs remained unharmed.
William T Carson of the Ream and Carson plumbing firm announced plans to relocate to a new North Marion address on February 25 after extensive repairs. The firm will use the 30 foot frontage space across from the Masonic temple, relocating from the Odd Fellows building on North Iowa avenue where it has operated for twenty years.
President requests Congress to repeal the cotton, tobacco, and potato acts after the AAA termination and Supreme Court ruling. The Senate passes a supply and deficiency bill funding farmers under the defunct AAA and sets unfinished business as the next item.
The administration's farm program substitute was favorably reported today by the House Agriculture Committee, advancing a key policy proposal amid debate over agricultural aid and pricing mechanisms.
The senate today passed a seed loan bill totaling 60 million dollars to enable farmers to purchase seed. It now goes to the house for consideration.
Funeral services for Paul Shebanek 81 of Riverside will be Tuesday at 9 30 a m at St Marys Catholic church with Monsignor Jacobs officiating Burial will follow at Mt Olivet cemetery He was born August 1 1854 in Bohemia and came to the United States in 1862 The family later settled near Riverside He married Rose Soukup February 7 1882 and they celebrated a golden wedding four years ago They left behind a widow three sons Charles Joe Frank William and four daughters Paulina Shimitz Clara Rummelhart Emma and Mary 18 grandchildren He was a member of St Marys church and the Holy Name society.

The group filled out a questionnaire on topics of the day and divided into three groups to dramatize Bible events. Naomi Simpson and Maurine Thompson sang a duet while David Fulton led group singing.
Iowa City press city report states Don Richardson aged 2, formerly of Washington Iowa, was reported missing Thursday and located Friday with relatives in New London. Chief of Police C O Paine confirmed the development.

Van Zandt has been unanimously reelected as commander in chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the first man since World War I to lead the organization for a second and third term. Known as Jimmie Van Zandt, he has served as a national officer since 1930 and led the Militant campaign for veterans’ benefits and American welfare.
In Iowa City on Feb 1 the temperature plunge triggered a price drop as a barber shop offered cuts for fifteen cents. Hundreds of University of Iowa students braved the cold to get freshly trimmed haircuts amid the unusual weather.

Three men halted a Cedar Rapids truck on highway 63 north of Ottumwa and robbed driver Virgil Strofton of 200 to 260 dollars. They blocked the road under an overhead bridge, two emerging from a car with guns. Strofton could not read their license number.
