The Washington County Hospital is over full with 15 non maternity beds. This morning 40 beds were in use with six in corridors. Admin Norman Jensen warned the facility cannot accommodate the rising patient load and urged restraint to avoid accidents or illness, noting beds for maternity care only in the O B ward.
James W Combs born February 15 1984 in Washington County died at 2 40 am today February 2 1965 at Maplewood Manor near Keota. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm in Jones Funeral Home with Dr Arthur Peters officiating. Burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include three children and five grandchildren. Memorials to Maplewood Manor. The 1965 Feed Grain Program and spring Wheat signup runs Monday February 8 through Friday March 26. Producers may sign up intentions to participate on any day. Township committeemen will preside on specific dates between February 15 and February 28. The signup is at the local ASCS office with staff to assist and measure acreage for diversion and feed grains.

Funeral services for Jonathan Graber will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Eicher Church near Noble with burial in Eicher cemetery. Rev. H. E. Nan nemaker of Hopedale Ill former pastor at the church will conduct the services. Graber was born Sept 27 1878 in Washington County to Christian and Elizabeth Conrad Graber. Survivors include brothers Simon and David of Stringtown and sister Mrs Elizabeth Widmer of Wayland.
Government troops halted a rebel advance 18 miles east of Vientiane and forced a retreat toward the Mekong River after heavy fighting. Three loyal soldiers died and several wounded as clashes spread from 12 miles east to Thadeua and Paksane areas. Rebel forces from Paksane faced Gen Kouprasith Abhay’s loyalists while Gen Khamkong moved toward Vientiane with open fire.
Jack Oak a 23 year old from Columbus Junction was seriously injured in a Muscatine crash Monday night. He was treated at Muscatine General Hospital before transfer to Veterans Hospital in Town City with severe head injuries. Two companions, Wendell Gammey and Ira Chase, were hospitalized with less serious injuries. The other driver, Ronald Hammaker of Muscatine, was uninjured.
Farmers are invited to Washington County Crop and Soil Management Day at the Washington YMCA on Thursday February 4 from 9 30 a m to 3 p m. Speakers include Bob Lambe Ames extension plant disease specialist on corn stalk disease soybeans. Garren Benson area agronomist on corn production management fertility plant stand variety selection narrow rows and fertilizer materials. county extension personnel on soil moisture relationships 1965 crop insect outlook weed control and cartilage systems. The group will be dismissed for lunch.
John Logan was named president of the Washington Chamber of Commerce board at a Monday meeting. Ray Watson becomes vice president for the coming year. New board members include Marion McAvoy Richard Paul and Norman Schoonover. Returning members are Paul Gebhardt Carlton Mangold Charles Goodell Dale Fuhr and Dale Connelly.
Washington area workers move their manpower office to the Chamber of Commerce building this morning. The office will keep the same telephone number Olympia 3.3048 and will operate 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for the remainder of February.

Iowa Republican chairman Robert Ray said Gov. Harold Hughes budget fails to aid education and provide property tax relief. He warned against windfalls from sales taxes and withholding taxes that could mislead balanced budgeting, claiming taxpayers would ultimately pay for gimmicks.
Ike Branzora aged 83, a former Wellman postmaster, died Sunday at his Cedar Rapids home. Funeral services were held today in Cedar Rapids at 10:30 a.m., with graveside rites in Wellman at 12:30 p.m. conducted by the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife.
