More than 200 junior high and elementary musicians from area schools performed in Washington for the annual instrumental solo contest by Everetts Music Co. Ratings listed include Highly Superior, Superior, Excellent, and Good across multiple instruments and schools such as Keota, Washington, Wapello, Wilton, West Liberty, Morning Sun, and Mt. Pleasant. A second event, the annual stage band clinic, drew about 200 musicians from southeastern Iowa and nearby Illinois.

Everetts Music Co has been purchased by Furniture Distributors Inc of Washington. The store will stay at its current Washington north square location with Dick and Louise Ballard continuing there and the Everetts name retained. Robert Everetts plans to serve as district governor of Rotary clubs next year and may relocate with his wife. he previously owned the business since purchasing it August 1 1955 and before that led the Washington city school system. Funeral services pending for Jonathan Graber 87 at Zeher Funeral Home Wayland after a fall at home in Stringtown. Graber survived by two brothers Simon and David and sister Mrs Elizabeth Widmer.

Iowa Council Approves 200 for Navy Silverware
The Iowa Executive Council reluctantly voted to pay 200 as the state's share for a silver service for the USS America. Gov Hughes and Treasurer Franzenburg said the benefit would be minimal, but participation was accepted. The council also approved a 12 99 Ford Foundation grant for an in service training project in mathematics for Linn O'Brien Osceola and Sioux counties. Two Iowa City properties were approved for University of Iowa expansion, priced 32 000 and 21 000. Evacuation planning for the Capitol area was directed with Civil Defense Director Ray Stiles, and the council approved hiring the Lewis System armored car service to collect deposits for 20 a month.

Omer Nicholas Sieren 19 of Sigourney is in serious condition at University Hospital after a one car crash two miles west and one mile north of Washington at 10 30 p m Saturday. Clifford Douglas Stoutner 19 of Keota driving the car went down a steep hill into a deep ditch on a snowy icy county road. Both Sieren and Stoutner were rushed to the hospital. the vehicle sustained 1200 dollars in damage.
