Des Moines column notes Iowa grain dealers returned home after a convention in which they endorsed the Agricultural Adjustment Administration and passed a resolution urging federal funding for research into industrial uses of agricultural products.
Des Moines reports January inheritance tax collections at $277,014.52, an all time high for the state's tax division. December 1929 was the second largest month in the division's history.
Des Moines child Wilma Morey aged five surprised adults during hide and seek by climbing an attic rafter and falling through the dining room ceiling to the floor below. She sustained minor bruises.
Des Moines continues consideration of Pat Brewer and Kilmer Griffin's appeals for the murder of Deputy Spor ff William Dilworth in Black Hawk county. Gov Clyde J. Hering met with attorneys a Catholic priest Brewer's former wife and four children after an audience.
Mrs Zoe Melcher 38 was killed when a stalled car at a Davenport crossing was struck by the Golden State Limited train. Four other occupants escaped injury by leaping to safety as the locomotive approached.
Maquoketa Jackson county records list ten arrests for drunken driving in 1934 with fines totaling 1550. Eight cases paid, two pending trial. only 200 cash collected, remainder turned to judgments or jail terms.
Fort Madison resident Simmie Werner, 60, a fisherman, died Friday when a parked hillside car rolled downhill. Werner attempted to stop it and was crushed when the vehicle overturned.
Pacific Junction farmer Ww. H. Strickland, 55, died in a local hospital after suffering burns Thursday while trying to revive a smouldering fire with kerosene. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, and three sons.
Dr. J. W. P. Dickson aged 72 former physician practiced in West Grove Franklin and Ottumwa died at his Keokuk home early this morning. A native adviser of the region, he had retired from active practice several years ago. The funeral arrangements were to be announced by the Dickson home.
Des Moines January 1925 auto sales rose sharply, Chamber of Commerce reports. Total purchases reached 247, up from 128 in January 1923, reflecting a 98 percent or greater increase over the previous year.
Mrs. W. H. Sroufe suffered serious burns when gasoline used to clean clothes exploded. Her clothing caught fire, and a child rolled her in snow to smother the flames, rescuing her from further injury.

In Richmond Virginia on February 2 Robert Mais and Walter Lagenza, leaders of the tri state gang, were executed by electric chair. Mais died at 7 50 this morning and Lagenza at 8 04. Lagenza sustained leg injuries from a gun battle during capture in Philadelphia. Mais protested his role in a federal reserve truck driver killing last March.
News reached here of the death of Mrs Pearl Phillips at Dlineis City across the river from Muscatine. The body will be brought to L A Jones funeral home for arrangements. She was a former resident and sister of Karen and Orva Scott and Mrs Joy Teets of Washington.
Nearly 500 leaders from 21 churches in and near Washington gathered at the Methodist church to map a March 3 to Easter Sunday drive. Denominations included Methodist United Presbyterian and Presbyterian with plans to spread statewide, led by Ira D Wayhinger and Rev George G Dewey.
Two Muscatine street department men, Henry Strake and Frank Triest, were critically injured near the east city limits when struck by a Milwaukee passenger train while signaling a switch engine. They did not see the oncoming train.

Sommer claimed Isadore Veish and Violet Sharpe aided by abducting the infant for ransom, a narrative the state says collapsed under scrutiny.

Mine Ransom Gosnell of Frytown died at 9 18 Thursday night aged 71. Funeral services are set for two o clock tomorrow afternoon February 3 at the Frytown Christian church with Rev Gilmore presiding. Her two children died in infancy.
Clarence Bain, athletic coach at Elk Horn Iowa, faced tragedy when three Bain players Ethan Johnson Ray Summers and Jethro Petersen were killed in a head on collision while en route to a game in Irwin. Driver Bert Christensen died of injuries and Melvin Pertersen was seriously injured. The Elk Horn team was disbanded for the season.
