Des Moines reports 25,100 graduates statewide this year, up from 24,873 in 1933, according to Agnes Samuelson, superintendent of public instruction. The figure marks the highest ever recorded since statistics began.
DES MOINES Iowa reports January gasoline tax revenue of $985 213 29, up $215 494 89 from January last year according to state treasurer records.
City officials announced a drive to secure a federal subsistence homestead project in Muscatine following surveys by the Iowa State Planning board. Recommendations on location and need will be sent to state relief headquarters.
Henry County, a tense center in the 1931 cow war, has been declared an accredited area. Dr. H. H. Seidel, head of Iowa’s animal industry division, announced the move on Thursday. Cattle testers moved to Des Moines county, the only southeastern Iowa county not accredited.

Robert Black Davenport and Rosalie Davidson, both of Wapello Indiana, eloped and wed after parents tried to stop them. Officers who opposed the match arrested the couple but released them once the ceremony was found to have occurred.
In Sioux City Iowa five officials were found liable in a $50,000 suit by C. A. Salter who testified that they "kidnapped" his relief family and dumped them in a South Dakota ditch after arguing they belonged in South Dakota.
Des Moines State Treasurer Leo J. Wegman announced that $194,000 of state sinking fund warrants issued to the Carleton D. Beh Co. had been called in. The sum was part of $3,500,000 warrants issued to Beh at 5 percent interest on Nov. 1.
Hardin County Receives $3200 contract from Hardin County Medical Society to provide medical service for relief families. Signed by the society and the county board at a joint Eldora meeting. Increase of $1000 over 1934 allotment due to more relief families.
Three thousand pounds of rough fish were seized from the Cedar River by Iowa Fish and Game Commission employees and given to the Social Welfare League. The fish are frozen, packed in barrels, and stored in the league warehouse for distribution to needy families.
Over 3 000 people attended at the Sea May farm near Salem Wednesday for what was regarded as the largest public sale in the region. The sale featured fine Percheron horses purebred Shropshire sheep and Poland China hogs with grain machinery and other farm goods also listed.
County Treasurer Marion George reported 4806 automobile licenses issued in Washington County by end of yesterday, about 122 more than a year ago. Trucks total 293, close to last year. 400 car applications remain in the mails with expected February 1 total near 4200. A $1 penalty applies to late December or January registrations and 1935 plates are now required.

Judge J. G. Patterson yesterday granted a divorce in the case of Cora Hennon v Charles S. Hennon. The decree assigns custody of daughter Margaret to Cora and grants Charles custody of Charles and Dorothy. The Hennon residence title is in Charles name with Cora allowed to live there while providing a home for the daughter. Charles pays 7 50 weekly for the daughter's maintenance and 5 weekly for the other two children. Household goods go to Cora.
The United Presbyterian church begins a speaker series by laymen. On Sunday evening Dr C A Boice will discuss Science and Religion with focus on Genesis creation. Future talks cover Religion and Music and Religion and Business as a committee led by Mrs Ralph Kleese plans attractive features for each service.

J M Trendley testified Hauptmann is not guilty and notes were written by a left handed person with disgorged handwriting. Bellevue hospital records challenge alibi testimony from defense witness Louis who claimed Hauptmann was seen March 1 1932. The hospital record shows the son admitted Feb 29 1932 a leap year date, affecting the timeline.
LeRoy Pratt travels to New Orleans for the Investors' Syndicate national convention he represents in the territory. Evers Washburn of Iowa City and Harold Roe of Burlington drive two cars with a party of eight including Pratt's mother and several associates. The group plans a ten day trip with stops in St. Louis Memphis and New Orleans.
Lloyd W. Lynch, field auditor for the state income tax division, completes a two day stay in Washington and returns to Iowa City this evening to address the Chamber of Commerce. He spent yesterday interviewing locals seeking guidance on their state income tax payments and plans to return to Washington for further interviews.
