Iowa Sees Mixed Industrial Gains in 1971 Despite Slow National Economy
Iowa Development Commission director Chad Wymer says 1971 was a good year for industrial expansion, with 6,313 new jobs from 169 developments and $108.4 million in capital. Yet jobs and plant announcements were the lowest since 1963, manufacturing employment slipped to a preliminary 203,900, and many projects remained in hold patterns awaiting final decisions. Wymer remains optimistic for 1972, predicting a brighter year with openings likely later in the year.
