Tommy McCaskey an 18 year old freshman at Iowa State College died in hospital from injuries after a wreck involving a 1936 Ford V 8 given by his parents. He and three other youths were en route to Lake Robins for dancing. the others had only minor injuries.
Cherokee couple Roy and Mrs Roy Sprague died on the same day but far apart. Mrs Sprague was killed in an auto wreck at Turlock California. Police delivering the news to the husband found him dead from heart disease at their home.
Iowa City painter Norvall Mathess plunged into ice caked waters of the Iowa River to rescue Walter Holmes, 26, who police say leaped into the stream in an apparent suicide attempt.

Nancy Viola Hesseltine, wife of James Hesseltine, died suddenly last night at her daughter’s home in Washington. A heart attack was listed as the cause. Funeral services are planned Wednesday at 2 PM at Jones funeral home with Rev. Arthur Atack officiating. burial in Brighton cemetery. She was born April 15, 1873 near Brighton and lived mostly in Washington county. Survived by husband, daughter Martha Nicola, son Ralph Hesseltine, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. A Methodist church member, she was known as a devoted mother and neighbor.
