Harry Singer aged 25 was executed at Indiana state prison after midnight for fatally shooting a Detroit youth during a holdup and killing three members of a Wabash family who he feared would implicate him. The chair was his Christmas present as guards prepared him for the last mile. He died eight minutes after the end of Christmas Day.

Fire destroyed the Baker farm residence located a mile and a half northwest of West Chester today. Fire crews from Kevin and Washington fought the blaze but could not save the home or its contents. The fire was noticed about 10 30 this morning with smoke rising through the kitchen floor. The origin remains undetermined. Upstairs furniture largely saved, but most of the house was a total loss. Insurance partially covered the damage. John Custer drove the Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance truck to the scene.
Washington county Methodist youths meet at Washington church next Tuesday Dec 29 for a rally with talks by local pastors and Dr Arthur Atack of Washington church delivering the evening address. Afternoon sessions cover registration devotional and workshops with six groups led by local pastors and doctors. A rally dinner and games follow with baskets to be shared in the church basement.
Sheriff Harold M. Bulliam reports possession of a slot machine found at the Foriash restaurant in West Chester. No charges had been filed against the proprietor as of today and the machine remained intact awaiting case disposition.
