Secretary Leigh W Soule of the Washington Y M C A announces completion of plans for the sixth annual New Year s open house at the Y next Monday The Y W C A will cooperate with a reception group and a serving committee There will be orchestral music athletic events and other items of entertainment The reception committee from the Y W C A in the afternoon will be Mrs Orville Elder Mrs Lester Orr Miss Edith Shields and Miss Ethea Dawson and in the evening Mrs George Morrison Miss Carrolle Forgey and Miss Althea Montgomery Supt J B H Peet is in charge of the reception committee for 3 a m Refreshments will be served the lobby in the afternoon by Mrs H R Lim Mrs Robert Hender Mrs Marton Hebner and Mrs George Stewart from 2 p m to 4 p m Power taps The boys lobby will host a ping pong tournament The men's lobby will hold the annual city checker tournament Play will begin at and continue through the afternoon Last year Walter Alexander won the championship Music will be furnished by the junior high orchestra and the Washington Little Symphony under the direction of Milburn McKay The boys of the V will show their basketball skill in the afternoon A tumbling team headed by Horace Allen and Ted Kiesey will give an afternoon and evening demonstration The V board under the direction of David McCartney will present a swimming exhibition at 4 00 p m The volleyball players of the city will be on the gym floor at night continuation on page Bd

Wellman Youth Carl Boone Dies After Illness
Carl Delmar Boone 26, son of Bernard and Eunice Boone, died at University Hospital yesterday at 11 a.m. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Thomas Osborne. Burial will follow in Wellman cemetery. He had fallen ill in November from a finger infection, with operations on December 15 and December 22. He was born April 22, 1918, on a farm 1½ miles north of Wellman.
