Marshalltown Man Dies In Home Trailer Fire

William Perkins aged 75 of Marshalltown died in a trailer home fire Monday night. Authorities say Perkins appeared trapped inside. Investigators reported spilled kerosene believed to have caused the blaze.

Groundhog Seen in Yard Shot by Local Resident

Mrs. Frank Szayna of 621 West Adams Street reported she killed a large groundhog in her yard after spotting it in a machine shed. It tried to pass through chicken wire that was too small for it.

Black Christmas Weekend Toll Sets All Time Record

The three day Christmas weekend tally shows 602 traffic fatalities from Friday 6 pm to Monday midnight with 69 fire deaths and 125 other accidents.
