Custodian Fischer reports to police that six or seven chickens kept in the Iowa City city park were stolen, a matter raising concerns over the Christmas dinner plans and park security.
F W Walsmith aged 61 a state bank examiner from Cedar Rapids was wounded in the right hand when he picked up what appeared to be a fountain pen at the Lisbon bank and trust company. The pen was a concealed gun kept for bank bandit defense and discharge tore a four inch gash in his hand.
Audubon high school vocational students plan habitat projects erecting shelters for pheasants and quail. Six major feeding stations will be established, two in each county section. Reused Christmas trees will be converted into additional shelters after holidays.

The White House rang with holiday cheer as four generations of the Roosevelt family gathered for an old fashioned Christmas. President and Mia Roosevelt joined six grandchildren aged nine to eight months in Christmas Eve activities ahead of a major celebration planned for tomorrow.

Des Moines Iowa officials closed the special legislative session after approving a measure to cushion unemployment benefits for Iowa workers. Lt Gov Kraschel and Speaker Mitchell signed the bill with Governor Herring also approving it, effective by Friday. The session paid tribute to Ole Nelson, 92, longtime G A R leader and former legislator. Stewart says the six rejected lawmakers faced no personal grievance, insisting rejections were constitutional and not connected to constituent loyalties.
Washington Goodfellows and Y's Men’s Club delivered more than 100 Christmas dinner baskets to needy families this afternoon. Volunteers filled baskets at the YMCA and delivery began at 1 pm, funded by local donations expected to total about 200 dollars. Baskets vary from two to four dollars in value and four sizes fed by community gifts and business donations. R. E. Arthur, committee chairman, will file a full report next week.
United Presbyterian young people meet at the church tomorrow at 5 AM to begin a carol tour for hospital patients and shut ins. They will return to dawn for refreshments.

Jungbluth, Dr. J. M. Lloyd, Ella Anderson, and Homer Stephen. Cash prizes will go to the top three in a community vote, with winners announced the day after Christmas.
Washington postoffice will observe Christmas as a holiday with no regular carrier routes and closed stamp and delivery windows. Postmaster M C De Long said deliveries aim to be completed by Christmas Eve. overall year mail volume is down from 1935 though Christmas business is up about ten percent.

Between eight oclock last night and noon today three alarm calls brought firemen to the B F Tucker residence at 1125 Fast Second Street the Carl Martin residence at 816 South Marion Avenue and the Mrs John McLadehin property at 215 East Main Street The total damage from the three incidents was small fire was contained to chimneys and roofs with minimal effects
