Three bushel baskets of home made cookies are among the Christmas gifts already received at the Lutheran Orphans home in Waverly.
The Boone Chamber of Commerce received an inquiry from G. W. Dy man of Wellington New Zealand requesting tourist literature detailing the city and county features. The missive signals interest in Boone as a typical midwest town for potential visitors and promotion.

A searching party found 36 year old Ry Jensen, a farmer, dead four hours after the pony he rode returned riderless. A shotgun wound to the neck was attributed to an accidental discharge when Jensen’s horse tripped while hunting. Family confirms he was hunting prior to the incident.
Judge Harold D. Jevans holds Cosgrove independent school district liable for $550 back salary to Sister Mary Eugene Schwarte. District had refused payment due to ecclesiastical garb and alleged pledged donations to her religious order.

Mr and Mrs BE BE Brackin of What Cheer were brought to the county hospital after a west of town crash on an icy road. Mr Brackin suffered serious head injuries but is not believed to be critically hurt. Mrs Brackin has less serious injuries. Other passengers were treated and dismissed.
A five month old boy named Thomas Alan, called Tommy, arrives Thursday afternoon to the home of Mr and Mrs Don Rabenold in Ainsworth. Neighbors greet the family as they celebrate a merry Christmas with the new arrival. Mr and Mrs Pete Adrian and Loraine came from St Paul Minnesota to visit the Snyder home for Christmas.
Young children appeared as readers delivering splendid performances. Rev. Klein offered a short Christmas based talk and a missions collection was taken. Afterward visiting children went to the social hall for treats, followed by church member children receiving theirs.
Dickie Lee Peterson won first prize of $5 in the Journal Christmas Carol Scrap Book Contest for a bound scrapbook of Charles Dickens Christmas Carol installments. Jean Atchison took second prize of $3 with a brown and gold color scheme and white ink sketches. Herbert Pauly won third prize of $2 and several other Washington county youths earned $1 each for their scrap books.
The YWCA hosted its ninth annual Christmas party for Washington children, distributing toys, candy, oranges, and popcorn balls to 169 attendees. A program featured Santa, a Girl Scout play Gifts for Two, carols, and speeches by Dr. Arthur Atack.
Laura Ann Doran five months old died at home of Charles and Mrs Doran on South Ninth avenue. She was born July 23 1987. Funeral services were held at L A Jones funeral home with Rev I Fredmund pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was in Elm Grove cemetery. She leaves five brothers and sisters Donald Arthur Herman Harry George William Katheryn Jane and Carol Jean.

Sheriff H. M. Putnam traveled to Iowa City to investigate damage at a country schoolhouse two miles north of Haskins. Two Washington girls said two Iowa City men, after a dance, broke windows and started a fire while the girls walked back. the two youths left, and the sheriff aimed to locate them.
