Miner Found Dead After Cave-In Rescue in Wilkes-Barre
In Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania a 54 year old miner Peter Byczkowski from Plymouth was rescued after a cave in trapped two workers 200 feet underground in an anthracite drift mine. His brother in law Lawrence Malachefski 37 remained buried and was later confirmed dead. Three other miners escaped with minor injuries while two were treated for rock injuries. The collapse occurred in the drift mine on the mountainside near Wilkes Barre Township.

Christmas carpenters rebuild Mississippi church
A group of about 25 Oberlin College students, three professors and a Negro contractor, forming Carpenters for Christmas, traveled 800 miles to Ripley Mississippi to rebuild the Ant ioch Baptist Church damaged by a Oct 31 fire.
