Former bank VP given suspended term for embezzlement

Doyle, 44, of Cedar Rapids, received a three year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to embezzling and misapplying about 5000 dollars over five years starting in 1971 from Merchants National Bank. He was fined 6000 dollars and ordered to restitution. He appeared in U.S. District Court Monday.

City Council approves across the board pay raise
Washington city employees will receive a $50 monthly pay rise starting Jan. 1, boosting overall salaries by 4 to 8 percent and averaging 6.8 percent for about 40 workers.
