Washington YMCA to host holiday events per Tom McSpadden. Activities include a table tennis tournament for boys from grade school to college with age-grouped brackets starting January 2, a hamburger and bean feed on December 23 at noon requiring 10 am registration, and a skating party for grade school boys on December 27 with optional ice skating. A Junior high party and dance on December includes 7 to 10:30 pm with non member 30 cent and member 15 cent fees.

Richland Farmer Charles L Reighard Dies
Charles Leonard Reighard a 69 year old farmer from Richland died at 2 pm Tuesday at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City after being stricken at home. Services set for Thursday at 1 30 pm at Richland Friends Church with two pastors officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. He was born June 6 1892 in Keokuk County. Survived by Ruth Kent his wife of 1920 three sons Glen John and Richard nine grandchildren six brothers and five sisters. He farmed in Washington and Keokuk Counties and was a long time Hopewell Friends Church trustee and a World War I veteran.

Postal Rate Increase Gains Momentum in Congress
Washington reported a deal between the administration and Senator Johnston clears the way for postal rate hikes next year. First class letters would rise from four to five cents and air mail from seven to eight cents. The Post Office would stop charging for non postal services to reduce the deficit while about 590 million dollars in new rates are anticipated.
