Fog slows salvage work at Silver Bridge collapse

Fog delayed salvage crews at the Silver Bridge disaster site in Point Pleasant West Virginia as divers pressed a search for vehicles trapped in the wrecked spine. Maj. Ray A. Brown said officials hoped to determine by day’s end how many cars and trucks lie in the submerged girders and concrete. Nineteen bodies have been recovered and forty two remain missing. A bridge expert blamed overloading for the tragedy. Dredging boats worked along a 2000 foot stretch below the site with best chances for further recovery in the nearly submerged superstructure.
