A Des Moines fire started in a janitor’s closet at the Continental building, damaging the United Press bureau and severing wire communications. Reporter George Lancaster alerted the fire department at 8:30 p.m., and firefighters extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes, with damage mainly to the UP bureau portion.
