A four alarm blaze gutted the 50 year old Freidtart Grain and Malting Co elevator in Minneapolis, capacity 3,000,000 bushels and nearly full of barley. Firemen fought crews in zero weather with a six mile per hour wind, relaying water from a mile long hose as boxcars nearby ignited. The fire was visible as far as St Paul and La Crosse. No other buildings burned.

Farmers Favor Speed Limit in Iowa Survey
In Des Moines on December 19, a Wallaces' Farmer and Iowa Homestead survey shows eighty four percent of Iowa farmers favor a speed limit on highways. A majority backs 59 mph, with 50 mph supported by 63 percent and 60 mph by 17 percent. Sixteen percent want 35 mph. 75 percent of under 30 favor limits, while 87 percent of older respondents approve. A license renewal exam every two years is favored by 54 percent.
